Join a free email listserv within your geographic area where you can post items to donate and search for free items. Everything posted must be free.

Location-based community forum. Items may be posted to donate or sell. There is no charge to post an item. Messages reach local (within a few miles) participants.

Provides free local classifieds for the Peninsula area online.

Provides free classifieds in an online platform for folks to help each other out with buying, selling, donating and trading used goods.

These websites and stores allow the exchange (or purchase) of all kinds of things, including useable furniture or appliances, between two parties, sometimes at no cost.

calmax KidMAX
School donation program, also sponsored by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, that provides businesses the opportunity to list materials specifically available to schools. All items offered to the schools through CalMAX must be free. Donations may be tax deductible.


calmax SCRAP - Scroungers' Center for Re-usable Art Parts
SCRAP provides teachers and community groups with interactive learning materials to support excellence in education.
Accepts Arts/Crafts items. Accepts unusual items. Accepted items include fabric, sewing notions, and paper craft materials.

calmax Theatre Materials Exchange (TMaX)
TMaX accepts postings from any Bay Area organization, including theatres, schools, businesses, hotels, conventions, salvage yards, and individuals to get rid of unwanted but still-useable theater-related materials. Materials accepted for listing include production sets, seats, curtains, office equipment, props, costumes, lighting, sound systems, and computer equipment. Most posted items are available free, with some items available at deeply-discounted prices. Joining TMaX to post, seek or respond to listings is free.
TMaX is a project of Theatre Bay Area. It is a web-based bulletin board and listserv for theater materials re-use, grant-funded by the Alameda County Source Reduction and Recycling Board and the San Francisco Department of Environment.
