San Mateo County Parks
There are 17 separate parks, three regional trails and numerous other county and local trails encompassing 15,680 acres located throughout the County. These areas represent a wide variety of natural settings including a coastside marine reserve, a bayside recreational area, coastal mountain woodland areas, and urban sites. Help
maintain
one of San Mateo County's Parks.
This organization facilitates delivery of the love and affection of volunteers and their pets, enhancing the lives and touching the hearts of people with special needs. Volunteers take well-behaved animals to nursing homes, hospital facilities for disabled or seriously ill children, and hospital rehabilitation wards. Donate or volunteer. 
Unfortunately, in these difficult economic times, people may be forced to give up their pets. Pets In Need provides a safe shelter for cats and dogs. The organization's goal is to find a loving, healthy home for every adoptable dog and cat in the community. Adoptions Specialist team members are trained to help with finding the perfect pet. The organization is funded entirely by donations. |
County of San Mateo Homeless Center
The 2011 One Day Homeless Census counted 2,149 homeless people, some on the streets, and some in various types of shelter facilities, in San Mateo County on the night of January 30th. This County program coordinates the provisions of homeless services. It has helped to fund the San Mateo County Winter Shelter and similar facilities in order to provide shelter for persons such as nursing student "Mary," whose husband left her, suddenly turning her into a single mother of three children. The Homeless Fund provides grants for homelessness prevention programs and permanent housing projects. To help the homeless population in San Mateo County on their road to self-sufficiency, make out a check to the San Mateo County Homeless Fund and mail it to:
