Sixth Annual Green Building Award: 2008

Sustainable San Mateo County, County of San Mateo, and the AIA San Mateo County Chapter are sponsoring the Green Building Award for 2008 in green and sustainable design and construction. The award supports sustainable design in architecture and recognizes the architects, builders, and owners of green buildings in San Mateo County.

The Green Building Award is open to any building constructed within the last five (5) years and located in San Mateo County. Reusing existing building materials in remodels and additions conserves energy, and is a green approach to construction; these projects are eligible to apply for the award.

The Green Building Award winner will be selected by an independent panel of recognized professionals in the disciplines of green and sustainable construction. The award will be presented at a celebration dinner on March 13, 2008 as part of the annual Sustainable San Mateo County Awards Program.

Award Criteria
The criteria are based on the "Principles of Sustainable Design," as described by Jason F. McLennan in his recent book, The Philosophy of Sustainable Design. For a complete list of the principles view the application.

Application Information
The application package will include: application, signatures, required submittals, a visual representation of the project not larger than 8.5 x 11 inches, photos (CD), a completed "San Mateo Countywide Sustainable Buildings Checklist" of the project with any additional commentary to explicate important items, and a brief description on how the project followed each of the six principles (not greater than two pages double-sided).
