Whether you garden for beauty or for food production, these season-appropriate lectures will guide you through the steps of getting a garden started and maintaining it in an organic and sustainable manner. Learn the basics of gardening without harmful pesticides or chemical fertilizers that pollute our surrounding land and waterways, and expose all of us including our children to toxic residues.
This lecture series is offered to further our goals of promoting composting and organic and sustainable methods of caring for your home and garden. Please join us to hear these informational and inspiring speakers.

Alane Weber brings 35 years of professional horticulture and agriculture experience to this important topic of sustainable gardening. She currently teaches composting and sustainable gardening for the Master Composter Program, lectures throughout the State at garden clubs, and local events, and can be seen and heard occasionally on television & radio. |

As autumn arrives in the Bay Area, there is a vast abundance and variety of compostable leaves and organic debris just perfect for composting over the cool wet winter months. Come learn about the specific soil microbes, called the "Soil Foodweb", that do the job of composting and how they benefit the health of all plants in our gardens. Walk away with a plan for using your organic yard waste to your plant's best advantage.

Grey Water Irrigation for Drought Times: Guest speaker, Sherri Osaka
Learn how you can irrigate even during water shortages by using grey water. This class describes what grey water is, how to use it safely in your garden, and which types of grey water systems are available, from home-grown to professionally designed and installed. State and local regulations and permitting will also be covered. Sherri Osaka is the owner of Sustainable Landscape Designs, co-founder of the Sustainable Landscape Roundtable and a director of the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the California Native Plant Society.
